ProcessController v2.0 Notice
----------------------------------------
©1996-1997, Georges-Edouard Berenger, berenger@francenet.fr
August 11th, 1997.
What is ProcessController?
================
ProcessController is a freeware that provide you with a certain level of control over the
teams & threads that are running in your system by creating a popup menu when you click
on an icon.
You can:
-Quit any BApplication that is running (both background and non-background BApplications),
-Kill any team,
-Kill any thread,
-Change the priority of any thread,
-Launch a terminal,
-Relaunch the Tracker if it is not running anymore,
-Relaunch the Taskbar if it is not running anymore,
-Access those functionnalities from any replicant aware application.
Installation
======
This release requires the PR version of the BeOS.
If you can read this notice, it basically means that you've unpacked the archive.
You can put ProcessController just any where you wish on your hard drive. I'd suggest
puting it in a folder /home/apps/Geb with the other utilities I (Geb) make.
How to use ProcessController?
==================
Just double click on the icon. A window appears with an icon in it. If you click on this icon, then
the popup menu will appear.
If the options provided by the popup menu aren't straitforward for you, then maybe
you should just not use this tool at all! It is more intented for developers and hacker than for a wide
audience, though you may want to experiment.
If you left-click, then you get some "simple" options: you can quit BApplications, and kill teams.
If you use other mouse buttons (or if you hold the ctrl-options or ctrl-command keys on a macintosh keyboard),
then you get some more options: you can also kill threads and set thread priorities.
Wether you can or not launch the Tracker and the Deskbar depends on wether or not that program
is already running.
Warning!
This software gives very very easy ways to simply kill the system dead (or part of it)!
Specifically, it allows you to kill any thread, any team, change priorities, etc.
If you are not sure you want to take chances to crash your system, then DON'T USE IT!
You may lose information by using this software: all information not yet saved on your hard drive
may be lost!

Known Bugs/problems
==============
-None, AFAIK! Just let me know!
History
====
-v2.0 (August 1997)
-Updated ProcessController for PR. I decided to use the replicant technology instead of the ugly
window hack I was previously using. I feel that replicants are just perfect for what I wanted to do.
-Replaced the ability to relaunch the Browser (RIP) by the ability to relaunch the Tracker and/or the Tasbar
when relevant.
-v1.1 (not release officialy)
-fixed a bug that would crash ProcessController if the team was a too long command line.
-if a thread hasn't a priority defined in the Be Headers, then display that priority after the thread's name
in the priority popup. (if you don't understand this explanation, don't worry, it's cool!).
-v1.0 (December 12th 1996): first public release.
